At the beginning of this year, dust collection specialist Vlint completed an extraordinary project at an asphalt plant in Wallonia: the replacement of no fewer than 704 dust collection filters. Within just three days, the plant was back in operation and its electricity consumption had dropped significantly. Rinus Kortekaas, Operations Manager at Vlint, explains the project step by step through seven photos.
Replacing Dust Collection Filters Without Extended Downtime
“Normally, the company’s own employees would replace the filters. However, that would mean four to five days of downtime and six employees dedicated to the task. We were told that if Vlint could complete the work faster and keep downtime to a minimum, we could take on the project. We didn’t need to be asked twice!”
704 Filters Replaced at an Asphalt Plant
“The filters and cages have been removed. Before installing the new filter bags, we thoroughly clean the entire system. The new filters installed here are longer than the old ones. This increases filtration capacity and provides a better seal. Think of it like a pair of jeans with a waistline that’s too low—bend over and there’s a gap you’d rather not see…”
Safe and Precise Work in Challenging Conditions
“The result of a full day of replacing filters. Looking at how dirty the coveralls are, it’s easy to see why dust masks and face protection are essential. Alongside craftsmanship, safe working practices are one of our highest priorities.”
The Result: Lower Costs and Greater Operational Reliability
“Filter number 704 has been installed—we’re done! The team that completed this project is extremely satisfied with the result and very pleased with the excellent cooperation from the customer. They organised everything perfectly, allowing us to work at full speed from day one. The customer is equally satisfied. Downtime was kept to a minimum, they can expect three to four years without filter-related issues, and they have seen a substantial reduction in energy consumption from day one.”
